How to look fashionably fab this party season

Christmas is made for dressing up, so if you love nothing better than getting your glad rags on and enjoying a festive night out or two, you’ll love this season’s must-have looks. Whatever your personal style there’s a trend for you this Christmas.
Glamorous girls are sure to love this season’s range of 40s-inspired belted dresses, one-shoulder frocks and beautiful brocade dresses, while those who prefer an edgier look can channel their inner rock chick with the main trend of autumn/winter 09 – grown-up grunge. Think biker jackets, stud details and black, black and more black! The key to pulling this look off is to combine grunge-inspired pieces with impeccable grooming, and mix different textures and fabrics to keep an all-black silhouette interesting.
Sequin detailing is also huge this Christmas but, a word to the wise, to avoid looking more trussed up than the turkey, keep jewellery to a minimum and balance out sequined leggings with an understated, plain top.
80s style fashion has been making a comeback for a couple of seasons now and this Christmas designers seem to have been inspired by Dynasty, as pronounced shoulders are one of the main trends for autumn/ winter. 80s-inspired graphic prints are also bountiful this season – look for an 80s style graphic print dress for a sure-fire way to make a style statement at the office party.
If your personal style is more low-key then fear not because you’re also well-catered for this Christmas with the preppy-chic trend. Think classic collared shirts paired with mini skirts in dark blues, navy and grey. To complete this look, a la Alexa Chung, try teaming with a pair of flat brogue shoes for an ironic take on preppy-chic.
Other trends to look out for this Christmas include leather-look leggings, jumpsuits, pom-pom detailing, red and black outfits, stud- detailing, super-glam platform shoes and the footwear of the season – peep-toe, platform ankle boots.
